Baby signing set – poster & flashcards as PDF download

Early communication with your child – loving and understandable

With baby sign language, even the youngest children can show what they need, discover or feel – long before they learn to speak. This digital set offers you an easy, everyday introduction to the world of baby signs: with a beautifully designed poster, 13 flashcards to print out and a compact introduction with practical tips.

Ideal for parents, grandparents, educators and all those who accompany children in the first years of life.

What is baby sign language?

Baby sign language – also known as baby sign language – is a simplified form of sign language that has been specially adapted to everyday life with babies and toddlers.
It uses simple hand signals for things or needs that occur frequently in everyday life – such as “mom”, “again”, “sleep” or “eat”.

From around 6 to 9 months, many children begin to consciously perceive and imitate gestures. With baby gestures, you give your child a means of expressing themselves even before they can speak.

This reduces frustration, strengthens the bond – and demonstrably supports language development.

Why baby signing makes sense

  • Early communication: children can communicate with gestures before they learn to speak

  • Less frustration, more closeness: You understand more quickly what your child wants or needs

  • Language development included: the combination of words and movement helps with language acquisition

  • More mindfulness in conversation: Parents often speak more consciously, more slowly and emphasize key words – this makes it easier to understand

  • Suitable for everyday use and playful: baby signing can be naturally integrated into the daily routine

How it works – using gestures in everyday life

It’s easy to get started:
Choose a few important signs that go well with your everyday life – e.g. “food”, “daddy”, “more”, “potty” or “mouse”.
Whenever you talk to your baby, combine the spoken word with the appropriate gesture.

Examples:

  • “Do you want to eat?” → Show the gesture for “food”

  • “Oh, a bird!” → Accompany the sign with a hand gesture

  • “Slide again?” → Show gesture for “again”

Repetition is the key here. Most children start with signs that they can use to make a difference – so-called “powerful words” such as “more” or “again”.

Conclusion

With this digital baby signing set, you can accompany your child’s language development in a playful and mindful way. You create a loving connection – through eye contact, body language and signs. And you enable your child to help shape, communicate and be understood from an early age.

Simply download, print out – and say big things with small hands.

PS: Your very own baby gestures – whatever connects is allowed

I recommend that everyone comes up with their own signs for the family. The official baby gestures are a wonderful basis – but sometimes you develop your own personal gestures that suit you perfectly.

It was like this at home:
My child absolutely loved olives (amazing, I know!) – and whenever he felt like it, he formed a round “O” with his little hand.
We knew immediately: olive time!

Such self-invented signs are just as valuable – because they show how attentively children think, feel and help shape things. And they make baby sign language even more personal and loving.
